How to Self Audit
When your primary role is to support your manager as an Executive Assistant or to lead your team as a manager, time is a precious resource because what time you DO have – you are required to share it around! Janet Leung reveals how the self audit can solve management problems.
Point the finger in reverse
The first step to making a difference in getting back some of those hours is to firstly look at ourselves and the things we can CONTROL – change our own personal habits or behaviour….this process is called a SELF AUDIT.
The Self Audit is…a great way to drill down to the root cause of your time management problems this can be conducted over a period of say 5 consecutive days.
- DEFINE the tasks you need to do – set a goal or target
- ASSESS your rate of success as to how many of those tasks you achieved
- IDENTIFY the things that stopped you from doing everything you wanted
- RECOGNISE the pattern of recurring behaviour
- ADDRESS the behaviour by putting together a plan of how you are going to change
There must be DESIRE and COMMITMENT to want to do things differently. Once you have sorted yourself out, you can then start looking at ways to improve efficiencies around you.
